Barbie Girl

Some people celebrate Christmas in July, but over here at SGTC, we celebrate
HALLOWEEN AT (sort-of-almost) CHRISTMAS!!
(wuuuut!)
So without further ado, I bring you:
Life in plastic...

it's fantastic!
but actually I think I would weep toxic tears if I suddenly turned into blow-molded plastic!  However, for an evening it was pretty fun to terrify the innocent!

and then terrify myself at the end of the evening when I had to take this absurd amount of makeup off my face...
So why Barbie you may ask?  It was a simple outcome of supply and demand (sort of).  You see, earlier I ran across a pair of FREE and outrageously hot pink heels.

Being the sort of human who would never wear these in real life (shoes must past the sprint-test) I knew they were costume material at its finest!
Back-track to March in Cunning Little Vixen when I was made to wear an outrageously long pair of falsies, and voila...BARBIE!
Brushing my hair is so much FUN!
My favorite part of the evening was definitely walking mechanically up to people grinning manically and trying to get them to shake my hand.  All this while saying in a Barbie-pitched-voice "Hi, I'm BARBIE! What's YOUR name?!"
So, did I get pretty close?  There's no way I was going to bleach my hair, but you know...details!

~ Happy December! ~

NEW miracle health product!

That's right!  We're finally getting a Halloween recap around here, as well as a mind-blowing health tip!
CURIOUS?
Raisin Brahms!!
Watch here for the hilarious Brahms-osity that inspired my costume for this year!
Johannes says: "For a healthy and fun life, make sure you get at least 2 servings of the Arts each day!"

Let's get real here folks: the arts are awesome.  They inspire us, they challenge us, they bring us together, and help foster creativity, dedication, and humor in those who partake in them.  The arts can provide much needed human-connection in communities, families, institutions, and even whole nations!  The arts allow us to escape, but they can also wake us up to the world around us.  They can be as irrelevant and old, or as fascinating and cutting-edge as our imaginations allow them to be.
Basically...whether it be forms of textiles, theatre, music, etc etc etc - the arts rock and everyone should have access to them in their life and community!
So go ahead - get your full serving of Arts each day and everyday!  You'll be glad you did, I promise.
(or Brahms will be quite upset with you...and you don't want that now do you?)
For those of you wondering, YES OF COURSE I burst into my Jazz theory class yelling "GUTEN TAGGGggggggggg!!!!!" and was greeted by a chorus of "JOHANNES BRAHMS!?!"
(I admit, I made sure that at least 3 people knew I was coming so that I would have a few responders)
To my immense delight, I actually got a bunch of unsuspecting class-goers to to yell back in total spontaneity!!  I also got a "you are officially my favorite" and a "everyone around the school of music is talking about you - in a good way!" which made me feel very proud indeed.
Also, check out the Pumpkin the H-roomie and I carved!
So remember folks - get your arts in for a good healthy life, and if you every hear anyone yell "guten tag" the only appropriate response is:
Johannes Brahms!!

All Hallow's Eve

Tally marks aren't just for keeping track of how many points you get in boardgames anymore...
I began the day as simply someone who was keeping tally of all the encounters with the Silence they had had.  It was your basic disheveled look, complete with a "silence will fall" sign pinned to my shirt.
However, no one was really getting it - so I switched halfway through the day to an Amy Pond look (keeping the tallies of course) to much higher acclaim!
(Pond pictures to come later)

I also discovered it is very fun to draw faces on the mirror with whiteboard markers so that your normal face lines up with it when stand in front!
It is however, not easy to capture this lining-up on camera...
aaaaand that's as close as it's gonna get folks!

Halloween Re-run

So Halloween was some weekends ago, and I feel as if I should catch up a bit on that weekend of fun!  I mean it's a holiday pretty much dedicated to dressing up - you can't go wrong!
(caution you may need to avert your eyes...)

OOPS! forgot your clothes did you?
Oh wait - YES YOU CAN!

College towns are chock full of the most unattractive costumes you will ever see in your life.  Seriously, I would like to have a good fist-to-face meeting with the person who came up with the sexy ______ halloween costume ideas!
Luckily I partook in no such nonsense.

Somehow I got the idea that being a painting would be a really snazzy halloween costume.  I was all geared up to go as Starry night.  Well, geared up in the sense that I had an idea but no materials what so ever!  The idea went a little something like this:

add some sparkles, a cardboard picture frame and I was ready to go!
Unfortunately, paint was outrageously expensive, I couldn't find a dress, and the broken mirror in the trashcan disappeared before I had time to nab it.  So, heart-broken and desperate I let out a great scream of despair!
and suddenly got a brilliant idea!

Hours later, with the help of a mega piece of cardboard, scissors and some black eyeshadow and I was screamin' ready to go.  (pardon bad puns here)

The best part was walking around campus all day monday, watching peoples faces go from seriously confused - to highly amused!
Lucky for me I live by all the artsy folk, so 98% of the people I ran into got it after a few seconds.  It was really fun, I was entertained.
SO for those of you wishing to make you own scream costume to wear to the grocery store, you will simply need the following:

1 large piece of cardboard (maybe some extra to reinforce it)
a good deal of acrylic paint
a steady hand
patience
black eyeshadow for sunken eyes and hollow cheeks!

Granted - it's not the most beautiful job, my perspective is kind of funky, but it certainly got the job done! And now I can display it on my wall with pride.  And of course use it to scream when life gets a little too hectic!
