Fun With Photography

Thanks to the rain  everything was especially GREEN this evening - the perfect opportunity for some fun with photography!  I don't feel very writ-y so I'll just post some pictures of the fun times I had splashing in the puddles and trying not to get my camera splashed in the process!!

I discovered that I could turn into a ghost today - how cool is that?!

Rain pictures are things that would normally come with cheesy quotes about puddles, life metaphors, and my achy heart or something, so here's my cheesy poem:
The rain falls
down
just like Kirk did
when he made the climb
the climb of a mountain

A while ago my mom had given me this really big shirt - but it had a cool pattern on it, so I pinned it and called it an outfit!

Just making sure I don't take myself too seriously!

I also tried to take pictures of the fireflies because they were so gall dern perrrty!  Unfortunately this is what about 99.9% of my pictures looked like:
woot fireflies! can't you see them everywhere?

Many mosquito bites later I stumbled back to the house, with one sad photo to show that there actually were fireflies out tonight.  Either that or I witnessed a UFO!

Hair (not like a wookie)

Sadly/Fortunately, I do not have hair like a wookie, although I do have a lot of it!  So yesterday Z and I finally took up the challenge of crafting our locks into some loverly dos.  The process was consuming, but fortunately we had our minions: a hairbrush, a gazillion bobby pins, a book, and of course human hair - from our heads.
For those of you looking for a weekend project, I would highly recommend checking this little number out from your public library - or better yet purchasing it if you're looking for some longterm fun!

So with the assistance of a mythical hairstylist etraordinaire named Karin, and the mastermind and nimble fingers of Z my hair went from looking blah...
to HUZZAH!

Boy do I love the 40s!
Thanks to all those who collaborated on my head - I am seriously digging my princess Leia of the 40s look!  Now all I need to do is figure out how to do this by myself...
o dear.
p.s Z:
I don't know why but I only got 1 pic of me and 1 of you from my email...so you'll have to try sending them to yourself I suppose!  I'll email you the one of you I have!
CHEERS!

These are my friends...

and they are certainly a strange bunch of posies!
Oh gosh - here comes college, and everyone always says "out with the old and in with the new!" but honestly I'm not ready to chuck out the old.  Heck, if anyone tried to pull that stunt on me I'd sock 'em in the eye, make them smell cat litter after safely rescuing my darling oldness from any haphazard chucking.
I get the feeling that sentence didn't make much sense so I'll try to rephrase in plain engrish:

To my dear buds - I don't care if I'm expected to lose touch with you over the years.  I don't care if we end up two million light years away.  I don't care if we all meet darlin' new friends and all.
If anyone tried to out-with-the-old you -
I'd go dumpster diving for you.

I don't know who this dude is - I just though it was really funny that he was on the cover of a magazine!

Let you guys go?

Prom pom pom prom

That Title was supposed to sound like a drum - like the little drummer boy (p-rum pum pum pum?)
Neato - anyway!
I figured that even though Prom was a long time ago, I might post some photos because my dress was pretty much my most intense clothing accomplishment of the season, and well this is for those outfit lovers out there (and those of you who like to read the newspaper.)

IT TOOK A LONG TIME.

The Process:

 The Results!

NU PROM:

 CF PROM:
My face says "I'll punch you in the gullet! 'cuz I'm from the wilderness!"

I like feathers - feathers are nice!

THE STATS:
Goodwill dress on inside (just incase something ripped!)
100% newspapers on the outside (plus some thread, duct tape and safety pins)
All the newspaper (minus the top) is painted with waters colors and watery-glue mixture, some of them are just painted with watery-glue for extra stability and non-rippage.  Dress lasted for about 5 outings I think, and is still in decent condition but I'm going to take it apart soon because I don't think it's really a long term garment!
I implore you: please appreciate this because it took many a day, many a week and loads of procrastination!

When you say Captain - I think ship

So I was invited to a Murder Mystery Party, which was quite exciting!  It was one of those types out of a box where everyone is assigned a character, comes in full regalia and proceeds to be given top secrete information out of a book that only he or she knows about.  With said information you can then interrogate other characters and have a rousing game of real-life Clue! Quite thrilling - no one knew who the murderer was (not every the murderer!) until the last round!  So about 2 hours before the party, I was informed that I was invited to the party (isn't it great having forgetful friends...)
Here is how the text went:
Your invited to that murder party it's in the 40s and youre a captain
Naturally when someone says captain I think:

(so pretty)

So I dressed like this:

(notice awesome Greek Captains hat borrowed from Dad!)

But apparently captain in this case meant pilot!  Anyway - that was no problem because I just borrowed some goggles (not swimming) stuck them on the hat a voila!  I turned into quite a jerk because I found out throughout the game that I not only sucked as a pilot - but I was kind of running a prostitute business.  That's not a nice thing to find out about yourself!  The character was supposed to be a man, so I had to improvise a tiny bit - that also might explain the prostitute business...
In the end we were all fooled by the innocent(ish) princess who wasn't the princess at all! She was actually the supposed murder victim who had disguised herself as the Princess and killed the real one off!
EGADS!
SHOCKING!
Somehow after hours of brutally accusing each other we bonded again...over cheesecake.  It's really quite amazing what a good confection can do for your friendship!  Hopefully someone on facebook will send me pictures, because I quite liked our "cast" photo!

FULL STEAM AHEAD!

Sun Bonnet Day

With absolutely sky-high heat again, a hat was absolutely necessary today!
I wish I had a proper sunbonnet, but in the meantime I will have to settle for the DIY version.  I spruced up this straw hat with a ribbon and a rose - it kind of matched my hair which was a pleasant surprise!

NEWSFLASH!
I finally put the finishing touches on my swimsuit yesterday and tried it out at the pool - yes!
I feel a bit scandalous because I haven't worn a bikini since I was about 5, so this is really uncharted waters for me.  I just really love the look of swimsuits form the 50s, with their nice ruching, and halter tops, so I took it upon myself to create one!  It turned out pretty well in my opinion, but I'll post pictures and so forth at a later date!
In the mean time...
stay tuned...
here is a tune for you to tune in to while you are staying tuned:

p.s - if you haven't yet, I suggest you add a summer night bike ride to your list of good clean fun time ideas!

A weekend in the country!

How amusing! How delightfully droll!

for those of you not acquainted or looking to become acquainted with musical theatre culture:
Too many songs - too little time!

Today I witnessed a full hay baling operation - gosh it was exciting!  This big ol' machine came by and kind of sucked up the rows of cut clover, then after whalloping along for a bit, neatly made hay bales started plopping out the back.
A pooping hay truck!
I have already decided this, but I will certainly work on a farm at some point in my life.  I think I need a some hard hands-on work to knock some sense into me.  I mean I like to think I've got a fair bit of sense already knocked into me, but still...there's something about slaving away in the elements and making good things come out of the earth that peaks my interest.  I should probably help my mom with her garden more while I have the chance...
Maybe I'll go live in one of those eco-villages, that sounds like a good plan - at least for awhile.  I don't think I could spend my entirety there or I might start composting along with the rest of the pile!

Drowning in the Air

Billions of Blue BLISTERING barnacles!!!!!
that's what my skin pretty much had fun doing today...blistering!
The sun was scorching, the temperature was edging towards 100, the humidity hovered around 70%, our only chance for survival was a cool body of water, and a really old swimsuit top I got for 25 cents!

Jack My Swag:
what an awful expression, I can't believe I just wrote that - I do believe I'll go toss my cookies in this nearby corner
what I believe to be a stylin' vintage swimtop scored at St. Vinnies on quarter day, tennis skirt given to me by former biology teacher, sun hat also acquired for 1$ at St. Vinnies
